Fantastic for No Lid Use but Too Big/ Thick for Cups with Lids

"The straw works great! No complaints about the function and easy to clean. The only thing I was disappointed by was it is too thick for me to use with my Starbucks Tumbler or cups of that nature."

      Maya B. (4/5)

      Helpful product

"Great product with a very helpful ability to protect yourself from germs and bacteria and parasites but could be a little easier to suck on to get m the water out. Of course, I have emphysema, however my wife also thought it was a little difficult to use. Maybe we just need practice"

      Jeremy H. (4/5)

      Portable and works great!

"I do a decent amount of traveling and this little straw provides a great option for ensuing I'm drinking clean water no matter where I am! I love that I can just stick it in my bag. I'm good about cleaning and drying it after each trip."

      Amber W. (5/5)

"I ordered 4 items. Instread i got an entirely open bag, with only one item in it. The receipt attached to the adhesive that's supposed to keep the bag closed, showed all 4 items."

      J (1/5)

      Its decent!

"I got this for airport water stations. Its decent but water still tastes a like minerals. Its on the pricey side."

      Bavithra D. (3/5)

      Appreciative

"Thank you, LifeStraw for designing and manufacturing the Sip. I really like how portable it is. I use it, as well as a Lifestraw picture and water bottle depending on the situation, due to a lung disease that prevents me from drinking water from any source. I am grateful I can drink from the Sip knowing it’s safe for me."

      Cindy C. (5/5)

      "Great"

      John (5/5)

      Love this straw!

"I use this everyday and it gives me peace of mind to know i can now trust the water I am drinking in restaurants and at home. I use it even when drinking bottled water. The only drawback is that I haven't found a stainless steel tumbler that has an opening large enough for the straw to fit through."

      Edna P. (5/5)

Larger than I realized but great for emergency stash

"1000 liter use is impressive for the size. I have not tried to use one yet. I wanted to give these for gifts. One person was thankful to have an emergency water item so small and the other declined the gift saying it was too large to use on a regular basis. I think they are a nice and stylish option but too large for every day use in general. I would personally use it if out and about but some may not want to. Still recommend Lifestraw as a great product."

      Q&A

Is there any plan for supplying a replacable RO membrane?
At this time, we do not have plans to offer a replacement RO membrane. We understand the interest and appreciate you asking. I have shared this feedback with our team for future consideration.
Does the water have a taste since it goes through stainless steel? I’ve used stainless steel bottles and it changed the flavor.
Thank you for your question. The LifeStraw Sip is made with food-grade stainless steel that is specifically designed not to transfer flavor into the water. Stainless steel bottles can sometimes affect taste if the metal isn’t high quality, if coatings break down, or if the bottle isn’t cleaned well. That isn’t the case with the Sip. The Sip does not contain carbon filtration, so it will not alter the taste by removing chlorine or other chemicals the way a carbon filter would. Most customers describe the taste as clean and neutral because the stainless steel and the membrane materials are non-reactive. If you ever notice anything out of the ordinary, we’re always here to help troubleshoot.
Can this straw be used for hot/warm liquids, such as coffee? Being careful of course if drinking hot liquids so as not to burn your mouth.
The recommended temperature suggestions for our products are:   33 degrees Fahrenheit/1 degree Celsius  140 degrees Fahrenheit/60 degree Celsius
We plan to use the Sip for international travel (2-3 times/year). Any special instructions for cleaning/storing the Sip during the months between trips? Should we replace the straws after a certain period of time even if it hasn’t reached the 1,000 liters limit?
We provide long term care instructions on our website under Product Guides. Here are the instructions: Follow these steps if you have already used your LifeStraw Sip and plan to store for greater than 1 month without use. 1. Remove the top cap and bottom plug. from the LifeStraw sip stainless steel straw. Wash these pieces gently with siap and water. Allow to dry. Place in a sealable container for storage. 2. Mix bleach solution. Prepare a solution of 1/2 tsp of bleach to 4 Cups or 1L of water. Set aside. 3. Add straw and solution to carry case. Place the sip without the mouthpiece and plug inside the open carry case and fill with some of the prepared solution. Close the carry case with the cap. 4. Shake 5 times for 30s each. While holding the cap in place, shake the carry case a series of 5 times for 30 seconds each. Discard bleach solution after each shaking and then refill with new solution. 5. Change solution and let sit for 5 mins.. After shaking 5 times, discard final batch and then refill one more time. Close the cap and place the carry case in a cup or vessel to allow it to remain vertical and let sit for five minutes. 6. Empty and rinse. After five minutes, empty the solution from the carry case. Remove the straw and gently rinse it under clean tap water for 5 mins to remove and leftover bleach 6. Clean carry case and store. Clean the carry case with soap and water. Allow to dry. Backwash by blowing any remaining water through the straw and place the straw without the mouthpiece and plug back in the carry case and close the cap. Store both the sealable container with mouthpiece and plug and the carry case with straw in a cool clean place until ready to resume use. As long as you maintain the filter, you should be able to use it to it's life expectancy.
How do you know when to replace the straw. Is there any indicator
Hi, If cared for properly, your SIP should last up to 1,000 liters or 264gallons. If you take an assumption of someone drinking a bottle of water a day with the straw (0.5 liters), this in principle means the product can last over five years with everyday use. We expect most people will not end up using the product daily, so the lifespan should be even greater than five years. An indicator is that the flow of water becomes less and less over time.
Does the straw indicate when it is no longer effective?
The Lifespan of the SIP is 1,000 liters or 264gallons given proper care. If you take an assumption of someone drinking a bottle of water a day with the straw (0.5 liters), this in principle means the product can last over five years with everyday use. We expect most people will not end up using the product daily, so the lifespan should be even greater than five years. To recognize when the SIP has reached it's end lifecycle, the flow of water will become less and eventually stop.
I am very interested in getting several of these straws for myself and traveling companions. Would this straw make it safe to drink the water in Mexico?
Hi, yes! The LifeStraw Sip is the perfect accessory when traveling! It removes 99.999% of parasites and 99.999999% of bacteria. 99.999999% Here is our data sheet which is provided on our website for all of our products! chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2631/0778/files/Sip_Performance_Data_Sheet.pdf?v=1715777942
Can it safely filter out Cryptosporidium and Giardia intestinalis, so that I can take it backpacking instead of using my filter pump?
Yes, the LifeStraw SIP (Safe Instant Purification) filter is designed to safely remove Cryptosporidium and Giardia intestinalis, making it a reliable option for backpacking. The filter uses a hollow-fiber membrane with a pore size of 0.2 microns, which is effective at physically removing these parasites, along with bacteria and microplastics. Both Cryptosporidium and Giardia are larger than 0.2 microns, so they cannot pass through the filter, ensuring your water is safe to drink in wilderness or off-grid environments. This makes the LifeStraw SIP an excellent choice for outdoor activities like backpacking, camping, and hiking, where water from rivers, lakes, or streams may be contaminated. However, it’s important to note that the filter is not designed to remove chemicals, viruses (if present), or heavy metals, so additional precautions may be needed in areas where these contaminants are a concern.
Is there a chart that compares the features of the Sip, the Peak and the Solo straws? I've never used your products but typically carry a water bottle and do little to keep it clean.
We have a page where you can compare the products and types of contaminants they remove. With all products, it is important to keep them backwashed and clean. For ease of use, the Sip may be the best product for your needs!
How do you clean the straw? Dishwasher safe?
It’s simple! You just blow the water back through the straw and it backflushes the system, then give it a shake to expel any additional water. We also recommend removing the silicone mouthpiece and bottom plug after about a week of continuous use, rinsing with soap and water and letting dry. The membrane should not be in contact with soap, as it can cause clogging. The carry case is dishwasher safe and can be cleaned with soap and water.
