"I bought these things in case the end of the world comes before the end of me. I think they are very expensive, yet I see no alternative. And that makes me sad. I would buy a bigger system from you, but I am on a fixed income. I see where my purchase gives a poor child in a foreign country a year of clean water and I wonder. . . . . . do you have a program like that for our own children here in the US? For kids in Appalachia, on the Reservations, in dilapidated city buildings with rusty pipes? I hope I never have to use these filters, but I now have them, just in case. Thank you for listening. . . . . ."

- Can the carbon filter be used with the LifeStraw Peak Series Gravity Purifier?
- Hi, Yes, the Peak Series Carbon replacement filter can be used with the Gravity Purifier. Set up the purifier as instructed, then attach the carbon filter to the end of the purifier. Hope that helps!
- How many litres does the carbon filter work for?
- Hi, Thanks for the question! The Activated Carbon Filter lasts 100 liters (26 gallons).
- is the carbon filter an threaded "add on" to the membrane filter? I can't tell from the website if the Peak series "carbon" filter is a stand alone, or just an accessory addon to the membrane filter
- Thank you for this question. The carbon filter attachment threads on to the membrane microfilter or the cap of the Peak Series Collapsible and gravity filters. We would recommend this as an add-on to the membrane microfilter to get protection from both pathogens and a reduction in chemicals and heavy metals.
- Can I purchase only the microfilter without the housing? Is for a project
- The filter membrane itself is not sold separately. They are manufactured to ensure safety and are glued into place within the housing.
- How often should I replace the filter? Long story short, I use this everyday for both hikes and going to work.
- Thank you for the question! The Peak Membrane Microfilter can last up to 2,000 liters / 500 gallons when properly cared for and stored when not in use. Depending how often you use it, this may be a couple of years of use. Over time, you will find the filtration rate will slow and eventually water will no longer pass through the filter. It is at this point you will need to replace. The filter is effective as long as water can pass through the filter.
- Why not having a smaller pore size filter? Some others have 0.01micron which can filter virus. Will you have a better filter?
