          Safe Water After Hurricane Melissa
October 30, 25
Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Jamaica on Tuesday, with sustained winds of 185 mph that wreaked havoc on homes, schools, hospitals, and the landscape. Early estimates suggest up to 1.5 million people were directly impacted by the storm.
In the wake of hurricanes, access to safe water becomes one of the most urgent needs. Flooding and infrastructure damage often contaminate water supplies with sewage, debris, and harmful bacteria, putting survivors at high risk of waterborne disease. Restoring safe drinking water is essential to protecting health and supporting recovery in the days and weeks that follow.
We are in touch with several organizations working to assess the needs of the local community and make safe drinking water accessible. We will be updating this blog as we learn more.
