Reviews

Life Straw, 10 cup

"I can’t tell you how much better I feel knowing that microplastics aren’t invading my body and brain! It’s so easy to use, and looks so stylish out on my counter. I fill it every morning, and it only takes a short few minutes to filter."

Victoria G. (5/5)

Beautiful but a bit awkward to use

"This is a lovely glass pitcher and, after sufficiently priming the filter, the water is clean and delicious. However, it's quite heavy, even when filled only half-way. I supposed that's the compromise to be made for choosing glass over plastic. Also, because the water flow is low and slow, compared to other pitchers, one has to hold up the pitcher longer while filling a glass. So for anyone who has trouble lifting and gripping heavy-ish objects, the glass option may not be ideal for you."

Monique D. (3/5)

Great water filter!

"I'm very happy with my Lifestraw glass pitcher. It's a little slow to refill, especially when filling up my 32oz water bottle. The water itself, though is very good and has no plastic taste which was the reason for my purchase. My home has plastic water lines and I can't stand the taste or smell. LIFESTRAW gets rid of it completely. Eventually, I might get the larger pitcher."

Geoffrey R. (5/5)

tuff

"After breaking in the filter(s) after a couple uses I have no complaints! It filters relatively fast and the water is great. Gives me peace of mind to be drinking clean water free of PFAS, microplastics, and any other bacteria. Great product for a good price and the filters have a nice lifespan."

Hayden F. (5/5)

No more plastic

"We're in the process of converting to all Lifestraw. We used Brita before, but now use the home filter unit and this new pitcher. The community unit is boxed in the garage in case water supply becomes a serious problem. The new pitcher is easy to use and uses the same filter as our home unit. We like it, keep it coming!"

William S. (4/5)

Sleek looking jug

"I appreciate the glass reservoir for purified water. It makes more sense than plastic. I'm still getting accustomed to filling it from the tap. The water really has no taste and that's a good thing. I'm trying to drink more water and this helps"

Mary M. (4/5)

Good taso

"My first time- the water tastes good, and I feel comforted that it’s a glass pitcher- But…. This seven cup water filter system is SLOW!!!! - it’s just my husband and I- so one would think a seven cup pitcher would be sufficient for our daily use- I looked into a bigger size but it plastic (PBA free- but still Plastic)"

sepideh f. (4/5)

Wobbly when pouring

"I loved the aesthetic of this pitcher and the overall Lifestraw filtering and brand ethos. But the filter just doesn't stay secure in the pitcher. They kindly replaced my first one when we thought it might be a manufacturing defect, but the second one does the same thing. You have to use two hands to pour because it feels like the entire filter is going to fly out of the pitcher. Seems like they need a 2. 0 version where the lid really locks into the pitcher."

Hillary M. (3/5)

7-cup glass pitcher

"I researched quite a few homewater filter options (pitchers or dispensers), and I chose this one in part because it is glass. I am trying to get away from plastics. I also liked that the two filters combined filtered out so many things I don't want in my water. I just wish the pitcher was a tiny bit shorter--it does not fit easily in my refrigerator. I now just leave it on the counter and fill a regular glass pitcher with the filtered water so we have plenty of safe, cold water to drink."

Colleen S. (5/5)

Love it!

"I love this pitcher! You can really taste the difference. The water tastes so clean and crisp. It does take a little while for the pitcher to filter the water but it’s worth it! Highly recommend if you are looking to upgrade your water health!"

Q&A

The filter housing appears to be made of plastic. If this is true why don't microplastics leach into the water in the Lifestraw glass pitcher?
Hello, The pitchers and housing are made of durable plastic materials that should not break down with normal use or time, and should not contribute to microplastic particulate in your water. All materials are also BPA-free and approved and verified for water contact. We also try to ensure we are responsible at manufacturing stages to limit waste when and where possible. Our LifeStraw membrane microfilters are made of Polysulfone, a high-performance thermoplastic that's tough and safe. It maintains its strength even in high temperatures, ensuring safe and reliable filtration. Thus, our product itself won't introduce microplastics into your water through regular usage at the normal temperature condition. The LifeStraw membrane microfilter is specifically designed to remove microplastic particles from drinking water. Through rigorous testing, we've confirmed that our filters exceeded the reduction requirement of NSF 401 standard. The high rate of reduction efficacy shows that our LS Home product do not add microplastics to the filtered water, and confirms our product itself won't introduce microplastics into your water through regular usage. You can find more information on our webpage under our blog post on microplastics.
Hello, Does the 7 cup glass pitcher hold 7 cups of water in addition to the volume taken up by the filtering system or is that the total volume of the pitcher itself? Thanks, Diane
Hello, Yes, the 7 cup holds this amount inside the carafe. The water within the housing is additional.
How do you buy a replacement for the membrane?
Hello, Thank you for your question. You can purchase Home replacement membrane filters at LifeStraw.com under replacement filters. There are 4 options under the Home Replacement filter. Choose Replacement Membrane Filter. I hope this helps!
Why do I bubbles in my Lifestraw filtered water?
Thank you for your question. Bubbles in filtered water are normal and are typically caused by dissolved air being released during filtration. As water passes through the membrane and carbon filter, pressure changes can cause naturally dissolved gases to form small air bubbles. Hello and thank you for your question. These bubbles are harmless and do not indicate a problem with the filter. You may notice them more with cold water, freshly installed filters, or after priming and cleaning.
How much water does this yield How long does it take to complete filtration
Hello, The LifeStraw Home 7 Cup Glass Pitcher holds up to 7 cups of filtered water, which equals about 56 ounces or 1.65 liters per full cycle. Once the filter is fully primed and broken in, it typically takes about 20 to 25 minutes to filter a full reservoir. Initial cycles may run slower as the membrane and carbon filter become fully saturated. Flow rate improves after the first few uses. For best performance, fill the top reservoir and allow it to filter completely before refilling.
Does it remove fluoride? Also how are microplastics not being put back in water with plastic filter sitting in the water? Thank you
Hi and thank you for your question. The LifeStraw filter does not remove fluoride from the water. In regards to your microplastic question. Microplastics are defined as plastic particulate from 5 millimeters (mm) to 1 nanometer (nm) in size. They can be intentionally made for specific uses, like microbeads in cosmetics, or from when larger plastic items break down due to weathering, material breakage, or mechanical forces. Additionally, microplastics can originate from synthetic fibers shedding off textiles during washing and use. The pitchers and housing are made of durable plastic materials that should not break down with normal use or time, and should not contribute to microplastic particulate in your water. All materials are also BPA-free and approved and verified for water contact. We also try to ensure we are responsible at manufacturing stages to limit waste when and where possible. Our LifeStraw membrane microfilters are made of Polysulfone, a high-performance thermoplastic that's tough and safe. How often do I clean the 7 cup glass pitcher, do I need to also sanitize the filter and if so what is the recommendation?
Hi, Thanks for your question. We recommend doing a pitcher and lid cleaning approximately once a week. Wash the glass pitcher and lid with warm water and mild dish soap. Rinse thoroughly. The glass pitcher is dishwasher safe. The lid should be hand washed only. Allow all parts to fully air dry before reassembling. We recommend doing a deep cleaning every 1 to 2 months: Discard any remaining water. Disassemble all components. Set the carbon filter aside — it should only be rinsed with clean water. Prepare a cleaning solution by mixing 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) of bleach with 2 cups (473 ml) of warm water. Soak all internal parts (except the carbon filter) in the bleach solution for 10 minutes. Pour the bleach solution through the tap to clean internal pathways. Use a small brush to scrub around the tap as needed. Rinse all parts thoroughly. Scrub non-filter parts with soap and water. Rinse the membrane filter with clean water only (no soap). Reassemble and resume use.
Does it filter out TCE?
Hi, Thank you for the question. TCE (trichloroethylene) is a chemical solvent sometimes found in contaminated water. LifeStraw filters remove bacteria, parasites, microplastics, and many chemicals, but TCE isn’t one we specifically test or certify for. Products with activated carbon, like the Home Pitcher or Go Series, can help reduce some chemical compounds, though not necessarily TCE completely.
How well does this work with well water? Can you get the full stated gallon amount on a filter? We have found other brands to get reduced life due to the minerals or other things blocking the flow rate in the filter.
Well water often contains high levels of minerals (hardness), iron, sediment, or organic matter, which can shorten filter life or slow filtration flow for any filter. LifeStraw Home 7‑Cup (membrane + carbon/ion-exchange) offers dual filtration and can last up to 264 gallons on municipal water for the membrane; 40 gallons (2 months) for the carbon/ion filter. Some tips to extend the life of the filter are to clean the membrane filter and pitcher regularly, and to consider pre-treatment methods such as a water softener.
Can you leave out the carbon filter and just use the membrane filter?
If you use only the membrane filter in the LifeStraw 7-cup pitcher, the water will still be safe from bacteria, parasites, and microplastics, but it will not reduce chemicals, heavy metals, PFAS, chlorine, or bad taste/odor. The carbon filter is what handles those. The pitcher will still work, but you’d lose chemical protection and better taste. The membrane alone is more of an emergency or backup option, not ideal for everyday use.
