Please note: When buying a replacement membrane microfilter, ensure you are getting the correct replacement for your version of the Go Series bottle. Lids with the flip up straw will need a press-fit filter. Lids with a twist-on mouthpiece and lid require a screw-in filter.
The Go Series utilizes a two-stage filtration system consisting of a microfilter membrane and an activated carbon filter.
โข The membrane microfilter lasts up to 1,000 gallons (4,000 L) and will stop allowing water to flow through once itโs reached the end of its lifetime. Replacements can be foundย HERE.
โข The activated carbon filter lasts up to 26 gallons (100 L) of water with proper use and maintenance. We recommend replacing this when you notice a change in smell or taste of your water or every 60 or so days with regular use. Replacements can be foundย HERE.
We recommended washing your LifeStraw Go Series bottle by hand but if needed, the Go Series bottles can be placed in the dishwasher for cleaning, but only after the filters are removed and you should avoid the heated dry setting. It is recommended to remove the cover and mouthpiece from the main cap and wash them separately.
Please see our video guide for proper procedures on safely and effectively washing your bottle.ย

LifeSaver
"I'm a truck driver and live off gallon jug bottled water. Needless to say, I was concerned with the revelation that micro-plastics would be present. I now transfer all bottled water to either the Go bottle or the glass pitcher prior to consumption. Hopefully your products will add a few years to this old truckers' life. Thank you, AJ"

How to get a high schooler to drink clean water ALL DAY
"I gave the life straw to my granddaughter who is in the band in high school. She spends 10-12 hours some days at school. No way to bring enough pure water with her for a day. She LOVES the vessel, takes it everywhere, including on international trips. She didn’t realize the filter should be changed so I ordered the new one for her. Very happy."

Replaced membrane filter on LifeStraw Go stainless steel bottle
"I love the Life Straw go stainless steel bottle with filter. I use it everyday when I am on the go. Easy to set up and use and the water tastes great. I am going to take it travelling to Morocco this fall so I won't have to buy water in plastic bottles all the time."

No More Microplastics
"I’ve been using the glass 7 cup pitcher and the lifestraw go series liter water bottle and I have to admit that maybe because I was drinking bottled alkaline water, it took me a few days to get used to the taste of the filtered water. Now, I love the taste and not being concerned about microplastics. I also love the idea of facilitating clean water for children in need."

Tastes great
"Water filtered through this straw tastes great. Not sure how long it will last as I just got mine a few weeks ago, but so far so good. It does take some pretty strong sipping power to get it started, so not so great for anyone with weak teeth or lips (like an elderly person)."

Q&A
When will the replacement microfilters be available for the water bottles? They have been out of stock for over a month and now I can no longer use my lifestraw water bottles because the microfilter has gone through its usage span. Please advise.
Thank you so much for reaching out and for being such a loyal LifeStraw user. I completely understand how frustrating it is to be without a replacement filter, especially when you rely on your bottle every day. The replacement microfilters are expected to be back in stock around November 20th. Our team has been working hard to restock as quickly as possible, and we truly appreciate your patience while we get them ready.
Is there a reason as to why my membrane filter has what looks like mold on it. I certainly have not exceeded the 1000 gallons advertised.
Thanks for reaching out. Regular cleaning helps your LifeStraw Home pitcher or dispenser work properly and prevents mold, algae, and buildup. Below are the recommended steps for both routine and deep cleaning. Regular Cleaning (Every 1–2 Weeks) Remove both the membrane and carbon filters. Rinse them with clean water (do not use soap). Wash the housing, lid, container, and silicone seals with warm, soapy water. Do not wash the filters with soap. Reassemble the product and reinstall the filters. Fill with water, then discard the first batch. Deep Cleaning (Every Few Months or If Mold Is Present) Discard any remaining water. Disassemble all components. Set the carbon filter aside — it should only be rinsed with clean water. Prepare a cleaning solution by mixing 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) of bleach with 2 cups (473 ml) of warm water. Soak all internal parts (except the carbon filter) in the bleach solution for 10 minutes. Pour the bleach solution through the tap to clean internal pathways. Use a small brush to scrub around the tap as needed. Rinse all parts thoroughly. Scrub non-filter parts with soap and water. Rinse the membrane filter with clean water only (no soap). Reassemble and resume use. Storage Tip If storing your product long-term, place the membrane filter in a saltwater solution (1 teaspoon salt to 0.5L water) in a sealed bag or container. This helps prevent mold and keeps the filter moist to avoid clogging. Does this filter remover minerals that are good for your health like magnessium
No, LifeStraw filters do not remove beneficial minerals like magnesium, calcium, or potassium from water. The filtration system is designed to remove contaminants such as bacteria, parasites, microplastics, and some heavy metals while leaving essential minerals intact. This means your water remains safe and clean without losing the naturally occurring minerals that are good for your health. ๐
How far in advance can you purchase these? Can I buy in bulk and store them in my closet?
Our Membrane Microfilters do not have an expiration date as long as they are unused and stored in a cool, dry place.
My filter cartridge has a hard yellow surface that water can’t get through.
Hi, The hard portion of your filter is meant to be there and should not be removed. Filtered water will flow through the portals on the sides of the Microfilter.
Replacement filters for plastic pitcher style ?
You can find all the Home replacement filters here: https://lifestraw.com/products/lifestraw-home-replacement-filters For the Home Pitcher, you will need a membrane microfilter and an activated carbon + ion exchange filter.
I need a replacement filter for a water bottle model that feature the flip-up mouthpiece and carabiner attachment.
Thanks for your question, Roger. This is the correct page for the previous Go bottle replacement filter (the bottle with the flip up mouthpiece). https://lifestraw.com/products/lifestraw-2-stage-replacement-filter
Does this also help protect against heave metals, like lead? Thanks!
Hi Bridget. Thank you for your question. The Go Series and Go bottle filters are not independently tested to reduce heavy metals. The carbon filter found inside of these bottles does help to absorb come chemicals and improve taste. The LifeStraw Home Series of products (Pitchers and dispensers) do also reduce heavy metals and emerging contaminants like PFAS, and pharmaceuticals. These products feature a larger activated carbon and ion exchange filter. We hope this helps answer your question.
Do you sell straws that are compatible with earlier models that feature the flip-up mouthpiece and carabiner attachment? If not, why was this discontinued?
Yes, we still carry the replacement filter, mouthpieces, and lids for the previous generation of Go bottles. The fitment is different, so be sure to look for the press-fit interface rather than the screw in version. The filter can be found here: https://lifestraw.com/products/lifestraw-2-stage-replacement-filter?variant=31340406243439 Mouthpieces and lids are available on our website as well. Carbon filters are the same for all our Go bottles.
The membrane filter lasts 1000 gallons while the carbon filter lasts only 26 gallons- is the carbon filter a separate product?
Yes, they are separate. The effective lifespan of the microfiber membrane is measured by its ability to allow water to flow through it. Testing as shown that for regular use, this is approximately 264 gallons (1,000 L) of water or about a year of use. Over time, it will filter water slower and eventually clogs will cause water to no longer pass. The Carbon filter's lifespan is measured on exposure to water. Testing has shown its effective lifespan is roughly 60 days (or about 26 gallons of water use).
