not tried it yet, but one request

"I haven’t used it yet, since it’s really part of an emergency kit for more people. I notice that the top on this unit is screwed down instead of clipped as in the instructions, which I expect is an update that hasn’t made it into the drawings yet. What I’d really like is some way to store the gray external tube securely and cleanly, clipped to or inside the main unit box. Right now it’s loose, which seems like an invitation to lose it."

lifestraw max works great !

"We get our water from a small well company. use to buy water from one of the big companies that delivered their water in plastic bottles… lifestraw max plus some glass bottles will pay for self in one year. Follow the easy instructions & the Max is amazing…in 15 minutes we got 8. 5 gallons of filtered water. tastes really good. the filters will last a really, really long time !"

I'll update after I get the water tested

"I had to cycle through three times before the water stopped having a bitter after-taste. It tastes good now, but I'm going to have it tested before I drink it. Until then, I'll continue to use my countertop container. I'll update after I get the water tested."

Perfect for remote house

"I use the Lifestraw Max to filter lake water at my remote house in Alaska. The only water source is a nearby lake. The Lifestraw Max works amazingly well. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Easy to store. Produces great tasting water. I have the Max hooked up to a Seaflo electric pump and accumulator tank (pump runs 35-45 psi; tank is set to 32 psi). The pump provides pressure in the range recommended by Lifestraw. I am filtering from 7 gallon jug to 7 gallon jug. It takes 10 minutes for 7 gallons. The unit is fairly light and thus easy to set up when needed from a storage location. I highly recommend this filter."

More like life saver

"Bought it for my parents , who live in Oaxaca , the water is from a well , they had been buying from a local water treatment plant but it tasted like chlorine, now they have water which tastes way better and they are not buying it anymore, we’ll worth the investment."

Very Durable and Great Flow Rate

"This filter has been used in Haiti for nearly a year at a school with no issues. Extremely durable, lightweight to transport to its final destination, and it has a great flow rate. We have told countless other schools, clinics, and hospitals about this filter."

Life straw Max

"This is the best filter I have used so far. It’s very easy and friendly to use once one learns how to use it. I very confident of the filtration systmem as it has the sieve and carbon filters which ensures the water is well filtered and safe to drink."

Q&A

Does it take out fluoride
Thanks for getting in touch with us! Our products do not remove fluoride from water. Please see our the comparison chart for quick reference on what each device will remove: https://lifestraw.com/pages/compare For more detailed information, you can visit the product page and under "resources" you can find a performance data sheet and lab report for in-depth results for stated claims.
Can any of lifestraw filters remove pharmaceutical wastes(ie:estrogen)etc?
Thanks for reaching out. The only products we have that would remove some pharmaceuticals would be the Home pitcher or dispenser. You can find the direct link to our lab datasheet here, which breaks this down. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2631/0778/files/Performance_Data_Sheet_Dispenser.pdf?v=1657301021 If you have any other questions about these contaminants or these products, let me know, and I would be happy to assist.
If you don’t have running water such as a hose, how does this work in prepper situation?
The Max does require pressurized water input to work correctly. In the case that running water is not available, a pump can be used to create the required pressure. We've seen this adaptation and solution in emergency response. A handpump or powered pump that can create between 1-6 bar / 15-80 psi will be needed to connect to the inlet hose. The Max can also be connected to a gravity system, but please note that to create enough pressure for the Max to filter as expected, one would need to have a high source of water (1 bar / 15 psi requires 10 meters or 33' of height). It is important to not mistake volume of water for pressure. You can have a lot of water flow, but any pump or gravity will need to create the required pressure to work appropriately.
what is the shelf life of the replacement filters?
Thank you for the question. If the filters are unused, they can be stored as-is in a cool, dry location until needed. They do not have a shelf life in this state. If used, please refer to the manual or product page for directions for storage.
Do any of your filters get rid of fluoride as well? Thanks
LifeStraw products do not remove fluoride from water.
Can you use this in a village that only has a hand pump well?
Thank you for your question. The Max works off the pressure from a water source. A system - whether plumbing, gravity, or pump - will need to produce 1 bar (15 psi) of pressure to push water through the system. With a hand pump, you may be able to produce this pressure but you would have to measure the output pressure from the pump. Keep in mind, high volume and pressure are not always the same. You may experience lower filtration rates due to the lack of pressure feeding the Max.
Does the lifestraw max filter out iron?
Thank you for the question. Our filters do not remove dissolved iron from the water.
Is this a reverse osmosis filter system
The LifeStraw Max is not a reverse osmosis system. The Max utilizes a two-stage filtration and purification system. Stage one is an ultrafilter with 0.02 micron pores which will block bacteria, parasites, viruses, and microplastic particles. Stage two is an activated carbon filter which addresses water taste and smell, some chemicals and heavy metals. Please see our evidence dossier on the product page for full details on capabilities and performance: https://lifestraw.com/products/lifestraw-max
Your information states that this product can be used using gravity fed as well is this true and if it is how would you do it?
Indeed the Max can be used with a gravity-fed system, but there are some requirements to make it work. The Max needs 1 bar of pressure for optimal performance. At this pressure, you can get roughly 3 liters a minute. To create this much pressure out of a gravity system, you would need to mount your water sources approximately 33 feet (10 meters) above the filter. If you have a rain barrel or cistern mounted on top of a building or water platform, this would likely satisfy the requirements. Below 10 meters, the Max will still work, but output would slow down. For example at 10 feet (approximately 3 meters), you would get roughly half the flow.
Does your filter - Max and Community filter flouride in the water? do you have a lab analysis of what is filtered out? Can i see it? Am very interested in the filter and looking for a good water filter.
Hello Eemie! Our products do not filter fluoride from water.
