How often do I clean the 7 cup glass pitcher, do I need to also sanitize the filter and if so what is the recommendation?

Hi, Thanks for your question. We recommend doing a pitcher and lid cleaning approximately once a week. Wash the glass pitcher and lid with warm water and mild dish soap. Rinse thoroughly. The glass pitcher is dishwasher safe. The lid should be hand washed only. Allow all parts to fully air dry before reassembling. We recommend doing a deep cleaning every 1 to 2 months: Discard any remaining water. Disassemble all components. Set the carbon filter aside — it should only be rinsed with clean water. Prepare a cleaning solution by mixing 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) of bleach with 2 cups (473 ml) of warm water. Soak all internal parts (except the carbon filter) in the bleach solution for 10 minutes. Pour the bleach solution through the tap to clean internal pathways. Use a small brush to scrub around the tap as needed. Rinse all parts thoroughly. Scrub non-filter parts with soap and water. Rinse the membrane filter with clean water only (no soap). Reassemble and resume use.

Can you leave out the carbon filter and just use the membrane filter?
