- When will the replacement microfilters be available for the water bottles? They have been out of stock for over a month and now I can no longer use my lifestraw water bottles because the microfilter has gone through its usage span. Please advise.

- Is there a reason as to why my membrane filter has what looks like mold on it. I certainly have not exceeded the 1000 gallons advertised.
- Thanks for reaching out. Regular cleaning helps your LifeStraw Home pitcher or dispenser work properly and prevents mold, algae, and buildup. Below are the recommended steps for both routine and deep cleaning. Regular Cleaning (Every 1–2 Weeks) Remove both the membrane and carbon filters. Rinse them with clean water (do not use soap). Wash the housing, lid, container, and silicone seals with warm, soapy water. Do not wash the filters with soap. Reassemble the product and reinstall the filters. Fill with water, then discard the first batch. Deep Cleaning (Every Few Months or If Mold Is Present) Discard any remaining water. Disassemble all components. Set the carbon filter aside — it should only be rinsed with clean water. Prepare a cleaning solution by mixing 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) of bleach with 2 cups (473 ml) of warm water. Soak all internal parts (except the carbon filter) in the bleach solution for 10 minutes. Pour the bleach solution through the tap to clean internal pathways. Use a small brush to scrub around the tap as needed. Rinse all parts thoroughly. Scrub non-filter parts with soap and water. Rinse the membrane filter with clean water only (no soap). Reassemble and resume use. Storage Tip If storing your product long-term, place the membrane filter in a saltwater solution (1 teaspoon salt to 0.5L water) in a sealed bag or container. This helps prevent mold and keeps the filter moist to avoid clogging. - No, LifeStraw filters do not remove beneficial minerals like magnesium, calcium, or potassium from water. The filtration system is designed to remove contaminants such as bacteria, parasites, microplastics, and some heavy metals while leaving essential minerals intact. This means your water remains safe and clean without losing the naturally occurring minerals that are good for your health. 😊
- How far in advance can you purchase these? Can I buy in bulk and store them in my closet?
- Our Membrane Microfilters do not have an expiration date as long as they are unused and stored in a cool, dry place.
- My filter cartridge has a hard yellow surface that water can’t get through.
- Hi, The hard portion of your filter is meant to be there and should not be removed. Filtered water will flow through the portals on the sides of the Microfilter.

- Hi Bridget. Thank you for your question. The Go Series and Go bottle filters are not independently tested to reduce heavy metals. The carbon filter found inside of these bottles does help to absorb come chemicals and improve taste. The LifeStraw Home Series of products (Pitchers and dispensers) do also reduce heavy metals and emerging contaminants like PFAS, and pharmaceuticals. These products feature a larger activated carbon and ion exchange filter. We hope this helps answer your question.

- Yes, we still carry the replacement filter, mouthpieces, and lids for the previous generation of Go bottles. The fitment is different, so be sure to look for the press-fit interface rather than the screw in version. - Yes, they are separate. The effective lifespan of the microfiber membrane is measured by its ability to allow water to flow through it. Testing as shown that for regular use, this is approximately 264 gallons (1,000 L) of water or about a year of use. Over time, it will filter water slower and eventually clogs will cause water to no longer pass. The Carbon filter's lifespan is measured on exposure to water. Testing has shown its effective lifespan is roughly 60 days (or about 26 gallons of water use).
