Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lifestraw was a lifesaver in Zion NP Last week, we went hiking up a slot canyon in the Zion National Park wilderness area on a trail that leads to The Subway. Like an idiot, I took off without two water bottles. It was a 90 degree day on a 10-mile out and back trail. Two years ago, I bought a LifeStraw at REI, but never used it. It was my lifeline on this hike. Every 15 minutes, I got a drink out of ice cold North Creek. The LifeStraw worked perfectly. I had no stomach issues despite drinking heavily from the creek. Please buy yourself a LifeStraw just for these kind of wilderness situations where dehydration can happen quickly and weaken you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Product! I had seen videos of this so-called "LifeStraw" and, after gleaning some information from the web, I was intrigued enough to buy the product, but did not have high expectations; after all, is it not just a straw? Boy was I wrong. Not only was the LifeStraw convenient to use - the user-friendly manual gets a 10/10 from me - but it managed expectations. Albeit, I am not someone who is particularly adventurous or takes pleasure in backpacking or hiking, rather, someone who is genuinely interested in sustainability. From filtering nasty, bacteria filled water to juices (for fun), the LifeStraw did not disappoint!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PRICELESS VALUE!!!! I bought one to give it a try on one of our back country canoe and backpacking treks last year. Our first outing this year, I bought another one so we didn't have to share. All I can say is that I've tried several other products, and none compares to the price point and 100% performance of this potentially life-saving tool. It's ESSENTIAL! It goes right in there with your must-have survival tools along with fire kit, cordage, and machete. As long as you have ANY kind of water source, you will not dehydrate. The funny thing is, I drank brackish water through it and it tasted just like pure spring water. AWESOME PRODUCT

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved Our Lives My boyfriend and I went on a backpacking trip along the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin that ended in nothing but disaster. Night one our (very expensive) water pump broke and we were stuck in the middle of no where with no potable water and a 3 day hike out. Thank goodness he had brought along his LifeStraw because I can honestly say it saved us on that trip. It was our only means of getting clean water other then boiling it and we relied on it for the remaining 3 days of out trip in the back country. We used it to drink right out of rivers and lakes because there was barely any water along the trail. We figured we would get sick because the Straw is so small, light and compact that there was no way it could filter the all but bog water we had to drink but it did! We were 100% fine and the water even tasted good. I will never go on a backpacking trip without it again and highly recommend this product to anyone who is an ultralight backpacker like myself.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stopped working after 2nd day of use. I recently went on a backpacking trip and decided to bring my Lifestraw that I recently purchased. I filled up my canteen with stream water and would use the straw periodically to drink from it while hiking up the trail. The next morning I went to a spring and filled up my canteen but no matter how hard I tried I could not get any water from the straw. This left me 14 miles in the back country without any safe drinking water. I followed all instructions for use and cleaning of the straw and it failed on the first gallon of water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Idea....Not So Great Experience.... Because I do a lot of hiking and backpacking I received two Lifestraws as gifts a couple of years ago. Never used either of them. I decided because of the weight factor not to carry my normal two liters of water and my Katadyn Water Filter on a 3 day backpacking trip in a primitive area of the Grand Canyon.....I would use a Lifestraw.....after about 1.5 liters of water it quit working.......suck or blow I could not get anything to flow through the filter...air or water......NEVER AGAIN!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Personal Water Filter We recently purchased 2 of the Personal Water Filters for emergency purposes. We trust Lifestraw will take excellent care of us if we ever need to use these filters. We have been using the Lifestraw Water Bottles for the past year and love the clean and crisp water taste from the filters. We wouldn't use anything else for our daily water!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed product. Do not solely depend on it. I bought this so that I didn’t need to carry extra water weight in my bag. I went out on a 3 day hike from where I parked my vechicle. It worked fine the first day and a half and then stopped working. Luckily I had the backup small bladder water or I would have been screwed. How can you advertise something that is supposed to work for 5 years and it only lasts a day and a half. It could have been a life or death situation.

Do you sell replacement filters for the lifestraw?

Asked by: Monoianmama
There are no replacements for this product. Once you reach the 4000 liters of water, it will clog automatically and you would throw it away.

Does it filter out pesticides that might be near farmland or if the water is being  chemically treated will it filter that too?

Asked by: Colebeeee34
Hello, While this LifeStraw Personal will filter for bacteria, microplastics, parasites and macroparticles that cause turbidity, it will not remove pesticides or chemicals from freshwater sources.

Can mold get into the lifestraw? I used it to drink while on a hike, and although I cleaned it out by blowing out water and washing it AND uncapping both ends to let it dry for several nights, the inside of it smelled strongly.

Asked by: Survivorman123

Can I use lifestraw to drink water that has been treated by Katadyn Micropur Forte Tablets? Want to make sure the chemicals don’t damage the filter.

Asked by: Bento
This product removes 99.999999% of bacteria and 99.999% of parasites, however, it does not remove virus. In general, viruses are not a concern in backcountry locations or in water sources in most developed countries. But if you would like some extra protection, you can combine a LifeStraw filter with purification tablets.
