Great Product but Packaging Change

"Really like this filter. Priced right and can provide my family emergency drinking water for a year if needed. However, I purchased this product previously and it came sealed in plastic. This time around it is in cardboard which I get is better for the environment but not better for long term storage."

Great products!

"Wonderful products, high quality and fast shipping! Bought the Family 1. 0 for emergencies to be prepared as well as an original LifeStraw. I bought the Go Waterbottle to use daily so I don’t need to buy overpriced bottled water when I’m on the road."

Q&A

How many liters does this hold?
The Family holds 2 liters.
Which filter goes with the Family unit? Why isn't that clearly stated on your sales page? It would be very helpful to have some kind of overall-comparison chart showing which products have which capacities at a glance. Thank you!
Thank you for your feedback! The LifeStraw Mission Replacement Filter with Hose is compatible with the LifeStraw Family. You can find it by going to https://lifestraw.com/products/lifestraw-mission-replacement-filter-with-hose
Can it be reused after opening and using for first time? Only 50 gallons were used.
Absolutely! Please refer to the owners manual for care and maintenance. This will ensure long term use! https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2631/0778/t/4/assets/LifeStrawFamilyUsermanual-1542722524005.pdf?4900009891886482011
I bought this along with a pitcher for home use. I don't get how this is used - specifically how does it hang? There are very few photos, no tools, and it is not obvious to me how it is held in place while adding water or retrieving water. Any guidance is helpful, and to the wonderful Lifestraw company - please provide a bit more details. Thanks so much.
Hi, The LifeStraw Family is designed to be simple and tool-free. On our website, you can see photos showing it hung from a tree or the side of a vehicle using twine or rope. The easiest method is to thread the rope through the four holes at the top of the unit and hang it securely. https://lifestraw.com/products/lifestraw-family-emergency-water-filter?variant=6159212216352 Let me know if you have any questions!
Does the Lifestraw Family have a lid or cover for the top? It appears to stay open all the time?
The LifeStraw Family water purifier is designed with an open-top configuration to facilitate easy filling and ensure proper airflow during the filtration process. This design choice enhances the unit's efficiency and is standard for gravity-fed water filtration systems. While the open top may seem unconventional, it is intentional to maintain optimal performance. If you're concerned about debris or contaminants entering the unit, consider placing it in a clean, sheltered area during use.
Does Lifestraw products filter out fluoride?
LifeStraw devices do not filter out fluoride.
How long does it to filter 10 gallons
The Family will filter about 3 gal/hr. so you can estimate it would take about 3.5 hours to get 10 gallons of water. You can find further specs on the product page here: https://lifestraw.com/products/lifestraw-family-emergency-water-filter
How many gallons of well water can I continuously filter before I have to clean the filter?
The LifeStraw Family filter is good for up to 4,755 gallons for 18,000 liters. This can vary by water quality and proper care and maintenance. Please see the Family product page for resources and user manual for more information regarding directions on cleaning, storage, and care.
Does Life straw filer out, Vynil Chloride (East Palestine)? Thanks, in advance.
We have conducted initial tests on the effectiveness of our Go series bottles and Home products to remove vinyl chloride from water. These tests showed at a volume of 0.5 liters for the Go bottle and 1 L for the Home filters, our activated carbon filters were effective at reducing vinyl chloride by 99%. The contaminant level was measured at <0.1 µg/L. This result is below the USEPA maximum vinyl chloride contaminant level of 2 µg/L. We are currently performing more detailed tests to better understand the longevity of filter performance. We expect more detailed results over the next 12 months. The following products include an activated carbon filter: Home Dispenser & Home Pitcher, Flex with Gravity Bag, Go Series Bottle and LifeStraw Max. You can find more detailed information about our filters on our product support page including evidence dossiers for each product.
I bought Lifestraw Family 1.0, what happens if the water I want to filter to drink has chlorine in it? Is it recommended to drink?
Hello David! The Family product does not remove chlorine so it would be retained through the filtering process.
