Purchasing LifeStraw Carbon Credits reduces your personal carbon footprint and provides safe drinking water for families in western Kenya.
Over 870,000 filters delivered to families
Over 4 Million people reached with safe water
Over 3 Million tonnes of emissions reduced so far
What is a carbon credit? Carbon dioxide (CO2) is produced when we burn fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas) to produce energy. Around the world, millions of tons of polluting CO2 is produced, contributing to climate change. A carbon credit (or carbon offset) represents the reduction of one ton of CO2 from our atmosphere.
What does one LifeStraw® Carbon Credit support? In addition to representing the reduction of one ton of carbon dioxide emissions from the atmosphere, one LifeStraw® Carbon credit also provides 1 family in Kenya safe water for an entire year.
What has been the impact of this program so far? The LifeStraw® Carbon for Water program began in April of 2011. Over 800,000 families in western Kenya have received LifeStraw® Family water filters thought this program. Since 2011, LifeStraw’s parent company, Vestergaard, has provided free repair and replacement of the filters, ongoing monitoring, and annual education and training.
For each LifeStraw you purchase, one school child in a developing community receives safe drinking water for an entire school year.
